Today’s Irony: Blame the Poor for Being Poor Instead of Lifting Themselves out of Poverty

Being poor is no laughing matter. Please don’t take this the wrong way because when I hear people suggest that poor people lift themselves out of poverty, I chuckle, perhaps to keep from crying. Poor people are poor because they have no resources, no money, property, education, power, the necessary ingredients for upward mobility. So, the question is, how does a person with nothing leverage that nothing to create something? Magic? So, suppose we just started telling middle working-class Americans, to lift themselves into the upper class. Not gonna happen.

Where you’re born, to whom you’re born, and where you grow up and go to school has more to do with your station in life than your work ethic or your IQ. So before you start looking down on poor people, think about that. Think about the favor you received. Think about how blessed you are. Know that your blessings are not deserved but a by-product of grace. If you are poor, make sure you know that your net worth is not the determinant of your self-worth. If you’re wealthy, get down on your knees and thank God, and then share your wealth with someone in need.
